Sportful Garden Restaurant @ Hong Kong [Mei Foo]

Dim sum...I say yayyy!!!! Always heard about good dim sum in Hong Kong, and boy is it! Unique too.

Abalone Rice Noodles
fresh and not chewy at all!

Snow Pea's Leave's Shoots Dumplings
my fav veggie in a dumpling, who would have known! so sweet!

 Fried Turnip Roll
this was like o-m-g-delicious! like the crust was this buttery flakey thing, and inside was shreds of turnip that just melted!

Foie Gras Dumpling
i <3 foie gras..seriously. outer shell was like rice noodles that have been deep fried.

Potstickers w. Crab Roe
comparable to the xiao long bao at Shanghai Joe's in NYC!!

 Abalone Siu Mai
not impressed. the siu mai wasn't good and they just slapped a piece of abalone on top. they didn't have reg siu mai and that's all i wanted. by the way this restaurant is known for its abalone in dishes. but siu mai was, happy garden in SF is wayyy better.

Steamed Pork Spareribs

Mango Cream w/ Sago & Grapefruit
nice and refreshing...and light. healthy after all the fried dumplings too!

Steamed Egg Yolk Bun w/ Designs

Sa Kay @ Hong Kong (Jordan)

Finally simple food! Finally non-fancy food! Peasant food, hahahahaha. But really good normal food. Super tasty and best part! The clay pot rice! YES!

Sweet & Sour Pork
yes it is very white, but when this is done right, it's absolutely amazing

Razor Clams in Black Bean Sauce
so fresh! never had razor clams

Claypot Rice w. Chicken and Salted Fish
apparently since it was no longer winter, restaurants stop serving clay pot rice since it's too hot to eat in such warm weather. familia had to call all over hong kong to find a reputable restaurant that served this

 Something Chicken
hahah BOLD FLAVORS

Tofu w. Minced Shrimp
simply refreshing

 Fish Stomach w. Prawns
this didn't look appetizing to me, so i stayed away from it

Salt & Pepper Calamari
they chopped off the tentacles! they're the best part and they didn't serve it. made me sad!

 Veggies w. Glass Noodles

Stir Fry Beef
i don't know if you've noticed but i didn't eat very much beef on this trip, so i mentioned it to the family and they ordered it just for me. the beef was tender! i was impressed!

McDonalds part deux @ Hong Kong [Mei Foo]

MORE MCDONALDS! But this time it's legit, and we're not talking just fillet-o-fish, I'm talking the big hoopla; soda, french fries, hamburger and wait for it....FRIED CHICKEN WINGS!

I wish we had fried chicken wings in the states, it would make every mcdonalds better, and it's actually better than KFC, questionable if popeye's.

I have to say that McDonalds in Hong Kong is wayyy better than it is in the states. The ingredients are a lot more fresh, there's less oil, it tastes less processed and it's cheaper!

All for Me!

Big N' Tasty
bun: fluffy, not oily and fresh from oven - didn't taste like processed bun; meat: apparently from autstralia, not greasy, didn't taste like "fake" meat, but real hamburger patty; cheese: real and melted like gooeyness; veggies: uber fresh. Overall: superb! best big'n tasty ever!

McWings
best part of McDonalds in Hong Kong. the MCWINGS! Think the "sauceless spicy wings" at KFC, but 100x better and didn't have the same oily-guilty feeling. that's all it is. sooo good!!! i want these shipped to me, PLEASE!

 French Fries
ok i have to admit that this was my one major disappointment. i have always loved mcdonald's french fries, and they are my favorite of all the fast food chain, it's something about them. maybe it's the fact that they're so preserved that they remain unchanged and unmolded after 30 days. something like that. but these fries, were too fresh, they weren't processed, i didn't taste the preservatives and they weren't oily! they tasted too healthy to be mcdonald's fries. sadface.

Tai Ping Koon @ Hong Kong [TST]

Tai Ping Koon is a MUST for the giant souffle. At first I didn't know that the family was referring to "souffle" because they kept calling it "sa foo lay" and I had no idea what that was. I looked in the menu, and voila English! Thank you! This souffle is meant to be eaten by two people, but the size of it...well even 5 people couldn't finish it! Apparently this place has been around for years and it's quite cute inside. Good service. Clean. Yummy food and funny story with the "swiss chicken wings."

Beef Chow Fun
hmmmmm :P

Swiss Chow Fun
a sweeter version

Swiss Chicken Wings
ok funny story, it's not really "swiss." but apparently back in the day europeans came to eat at this restaurant and waiter served this chicken to them, they liked it a lot and kept saying "sweet chicken, sweet chicken" and of course the chinese misinterpreted it and understood it as "swiss chicken" thinking this is what is "'swiss' chicken." awkward turtle. ha

Ox Tongue Sandwich
doesn't taste like tongue, that's a plus in my book!

SOUFFLE!!!!!
trust me when i say this thing is HUGE, and it's meant to only serve 2 people. what does it taste like you ask? well you know those yellow sponge cake thingies you can get at chinese bakeries? it's like that, but a lot more fluffy, airy and just WOW. the best.

after 5 people attempted to finish it...too much my friend

Eggettes @ Hong Kong [Mei Foo]

Eggettes from the motherland! It really is better here, and I don't know why. These are so simple to make. Basically chinese waffle, no? But I guess it's all about the batter and technique! Took these into the movie theater, great snack :) I think it's healthier than popcorn too. hehehe.

Batter's On!

...and cooking...

...looking good...looks like egg carton no?

Hot off the griddle!

oh so fluffy...airy, sweet...simple but wait...

it has to cool down via the fan in order to get crispy!

*forgot name of jook place* @ Hong Kong [Mei Foo]

So I don't remember what this place was called...but I think it was the BEST JOOK I had in Hong Kong. Something about the porridge and how they stew it...just that amazing.

Salted Pork & Duck Egg

Soy Sauce Stir Fry Noodles

Pan Fried Turnip Cake
this was like omg...for real. i haven't had a turnip cake that was this good, savory, sweet. it had dried scallops. it had chinese sausage, it was soft it was goey, it was cripsy. it was all! uncle 2 says he can make better....bring it on!

Dragon King Restaurant @ Hong Kong (Wan Chai)

This fancy restaurant is located inside the Empire Hotel in Wan Chai, across the street from a few American bars, and across the street from the hotel that was under quarantine when the whole SARS ordeal broke out. HAHA. The restaurant is quite fancy, and had some pretty special things to eat. Some how we managed to eat until midnight, I don't now how that happened.

Roasted Suckling
yummmies!!!! why would you ever eat the adult when you can have the suckling version. hahah i'm sure peta wants to kill me now. but seriously, i see on all the food channels and travel channel that people go all over the world to eat roasted suckling and voila here's mine! first the skin is roasted to perfect, and second the meat is so softy and juicy. there's so my flavor every where!

 It's served with bread

Special Soup
ok this may look ordinary, and nothing special, but that's because you can't put it in your mouth. it's soup made with chinese herbs, chicken and conch. i think the conch makes it all amazing. i had two bowls of this because it was THAT good

Stir Fry Veggies w. Fish
Sweet and Spicy Shrimp w. Mushroom Beancurd

Steamed Fish
Abalone w. Bean Sprouts

Onion, Garlic, Soy Sauce Chicken
apparently eating this makes you smart

Stewed Giant Napa Cabbage
simple enough, but the veggie is so sweet! it's so clear...so nom noms

 Soup w. Poppin' Rice
i don't know how to explain what this is really called in chinese. but let me explain the concept. so there's this soup that has veggies, and like pork/chicken in it. all flavor, very robust, very hearty, very savory, just verrryy good. then you take like day old cooked rice, and you basically "fry" it until it's crispy. then....

 then...

you add the rice to the soup! and it starts to snap, pop and crack just like rice crispies in your milk for breakfast. but this is WAYYY better because well i dont know what. it's just really good and you need to eat it!

 Dessert: Blended Vegetables and Fruits
tasty and apparently very healthy because of the veggies, think V8 but tastes nothing like it, but with all the added benefits

 Chrysantamum Jelly
loves it! better than any other jell-o i've had. hands down
