Off The Grid @ San Francisco

Latest obsession is street food! You will definitely see my obsession in the next few posts. San Francisco has been booming with food carts and whatnot over the past couple years. The geniuses behind Off The Grid decided to put together many food carts from around the city (and even the bay area) every Friday from 5pm-9pm at Fort Mason. The food carts just park there and you just EAT away. Best part, affordable prices, and the lines were not as insane as the SF Street Food Festival (see the next blog).

Marina

still early, not filled yet

Korean Kalbi Tacos
it's ok...nothing amazing. i'm hoping kogi in la is better. definitely not a repeater and not worthy to line up for

Duck Taco
now this was amazing. this was definitely worth waiting. the duck was nicely roasted and had all of its juices. mango salsa added a sweet and tangy flavor, and just a hint of hoisin. it was goods.

this is by far my favorite food cart truck. hmmmm

Pork Belly on Steamed Bun
didn't really care for the pickled daikon on top. the best part was the meat and the bun. the bun was perfectly softy and sweet. the pork belly was half fatty and half lean and really good powerful flavor that just JUMPS out. this is a repeater and totally worth waiting 15 minutes for.

Duck Confit w. Mango
didn't really care for the mango on top, but the best part was the bun, the duck confit and the spicy-mayo-like sauce. it was so juicy and savory. yumms.

Green Tea Slushee
perfect refreshing drink to go with the baos. it's icy! it's green tea! there's mango pieces! there's jelly pieces! i don't know there's so much, and i've actually been craving it for the past two weeks.

never tried but it looked good

Chinese Fried Chicken from Iz It
best fried chicken EVER! it has the savory taste of the five-spice seasoning. it's not too battery, lightly battered, more light than tempura. skin is perfectly crisp and inside is juicy and hot. sold! last time i ate a drumstick this good i was 8 years old in chinatown.

Empanada at El Porteno
most delicious empanada ever! you would think i would prefer the meat empanada, but no the mushroom was the way to go. you'd take a bite, and flavors would pop. then after you swallow, your mouth drools a little because other flavors from the empanada come from out of the blue and the tastiness comes again

Dumpling from Happy Dumplings
good but i've definitely had better. nothing to rave about really.
