Cannery Cafe @ Astoria

Astoria is right on the edge of Oregon where the Columbia River separates Oregon and Washington. On a clear day you can actually see Washington over the river. There's a bridge that takes you there, but no toll! Wow! Residents of Washington like to come to Oregon to go shopping, because it's sales tax free! Yes! While driving around Astoria one night, and after looking at the Column, everyone was hungry and it was time for some grub! Headed down to the pier to a cute restaurant, Cannery Cafe. It's small, and it overlooks the water. It was nice. The menu had some seafood on it, and apparently Oregon's native food is salmon. Everything was tasty. I liked it, but not enough to repeat. I'm always in the search of something better, until I've found the one :)

Laksloda
[salmon layered between potatoes, butter and cream]
really good. rich, creamy, and yet delicate. the salmon was nice and flaky, and it was a great compliment to the layered potatoes. it all melded very well

Seafood in Creamy Gouda Sauce
[rock shrimp & bay scallops sauteed with mushroom, tomatoes & scallions, served over linguini]
love love loved the gouda sauce. gouda is one of my favorite cheeses, and to pour it over pasta was heavenly. this was a small portion and it was too much for me already. very flavorful, and the seafood was cooked perfectly where it wasn't chewy or dry, but kind of "medium rare" if that exists for seafood.
