Hot Italian @ Sacramento

It's been awhile since this Penguin has blogged, and it's partly due to the fact that I haven't eaten out in awhile. It's not that I have run out of places to eat, because that could never happen, but I'm running out of people to eat with! That and I've been busy too.

Anyhow these next two posts are dedicated to bacchus of nyc (you know who you are). I am assisting you in your procrastination!

Good pizza, not so good panini. Hot Italian. I has a super trendy exterior and an even trendier interior. Plenty of natural light on the inside which is a definite plus (i like natural light). Yup this place is straight out of Sacramento, and it's not a chain restaurant! Rice rocket and I decided to have lunch here the other day. I kept passing by it whenever I drove up 16th street, and I was definitely intrigued, especially when the website boats of motor cars...Italiano style! The pizza was really good...thin, crispy, airy and chewy at the same time. I know how is it possible right? I would definitely come back here again, more pizza though no panini. Oh yea and I HAVE TO TRY the dessert pizza! Sounds too good to be true.

Oven where the pizza cooks

Stella Pizza
[prosciutto parma, mozzarella, crescenza cheese, mushroom medley]
this was AMAZINE! the crush was just soft, thin, crispy, chew, tasty...all of it! i love prosciutto, and it was nice and cured! love the crescenza cheese, it was scattered around the pizza and when you take a bite and it's right there it just bursts of flavor in your mouth. last but not least, the mushrooms. i love mushrooms...and my idea pizza has mushrooms in it. as amazing as this pizza was, i felt it was missing something, but that's because i'm just so use to having my pizza dipped in ranch sauce...it's just too good to not dip it. also there was no tomato sauce, and i just love tomato sauce too. but honestly, pizza was good as in, even despite my palate

Pantani
[bresaola (cured, salted beef), arugula, mozzarella, shaved grana padana cheese]
ok this piece was a complete negatory for me. i think partly it was because of the bread, as much as i love love love the pizza crust, i didn't want the pizza crust to be my bread in the panini. good panini has good bread; crunch, toasty, flavor and just a smidgen of oil...whether it be because of butter or olive oil. i also wasn't a fan of the cured salt beef...proscittuo! not cured salt beef. the cheese wasn't good either because there was too much of it (yes too much) and when it cooled down, it did what cheese does...gets hard a little....yea no thank you. this too was missing sauce, and i deseprately needed something! i requested mariniara...rice rocket i blame you for ordering this!

Marinara Sauce
now why didn't they just put the marinara sauce (or pizza sauce) right onto the pizza! it could have helped if the guy nuked this in the microwave too, it was room temp. however it did add to the panini which was a plus!

Gelato: ferrero rocher
tastes just like the candy!!! really good...hmmm...but i really do need to try the dessert pizza next time, that sounds like heaven in my mouth
